Abstract

Catheters, such as fractional flow reserve catheters, include an elongated shaft with a pressure sensing wire extending to a distal portion of the elongated shaft. The wire has a pressure sensor mounted on the distal end for measuring the pressure of the fluid within the lumen of the vessel. The pressure sensor wire is disposed within a dimple formed adjacent to the pressure sensor, thereby minimizing the catheter profile. The bending stresses experienced by a pressure sensor mounted to a fractional flow reserve catheter as the catheter is advanced through the vasculature produce deformation of the sensor, resulting in incorrect pressure readings or bending errors. To isolate the sensor from bending stresses, the sensor is spaced apart from the pressure sensor wire to allow the pressure sensor and pressure sensor wire to move independently of each other.

Description

[0001] Related Patent Applications [0002] This application is a continuation-in-part of Patent Application Serial No. 14 / 595,884, filed January 13, 2015, under 35 U.S.C. §119 of U.S. Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 012,628, filed June 15, 2014 rights of the number. This application was also filed under 35 U.S.C. §119 on October 24, 2014 and is entitled "MICROCATHETERSENSOR DESIGN FOR MINIMIZING PROFILE AND IMPACT OF WIRE STRAIN ON SENSOR Sensor Design)" U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 068,052. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to methods and systems for determining a pressure gradient across a lesion of a vessel for use in calculating a fractional flow reserve. Background technique [0004] The severity of a stenosis or lesion in a blood vessel can be assessed by obtaining proximal and distal pressure measurements relative to a given stenosis and using these measurements to calculate a value for Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR). ...
