The method comprises the steps of 1, acquiring a grayscale image of a leaf; 2, and acquiring the plant water deficit level by using a hybrid deep learning network based on a rectangular image block of the grayscale image. According to the invention, the plant water deficit level is acquired quickly and accurately under the premise of not damaging the plant leaf, thus an appropriate precision irrigation measure can be adopted timely according to the plant water deficit level, and health growth of the plant is ensured. For crops, the yield of the crops and the quality of products can further be ensured according to the invention. In addition, real-time detection for the water deficit level can be performed on small-scale plants on site by applying the method to mobile terminals such as an intelligent mobile phone; and real-time detection for the water deficit level can also be performed on large-scale plants within video monitoring through applying the method to a computer.
