Abstract

An embodiment of the present application provides a method for accessing a network, the method comprising: a first gateway receiving an Ethernet point-to-point protocol PPPoE activation discovery initiation PADI message sent by a client. The first gateway acquires the MAC address of the client from the PADI message. The first gateway determines, according to the MAC address of the client and the access information table, that the client fails to access the network. The first gateway stops sending PPPoE activation discovery service PADO packets to the client. The above method can reduce the waste of resources caused by the client being unable to access other gateways with remaining addresses because the client can only establish a session with the BRAS that responds to the PADO message faster during the client's access to the network.
