Abstract

The invention concerns a method for selecting an antenna of a communication device for exchanging data with a radio access node. In order to select which one of the antennas connected to the communication device should be used to communicate with the radio access node, detection mechanisms based on resistivity measurements are run by the communication devices. However, such detection mechanisms are not reliable for detecting the connection of capacitive antennas. According to an embodiment of the invention, an antenna is selected for exchanging data with the radio access node upon detection ofthe establishment of a radio connection between said antenna and said radio access node, said detection being triggered when it is determined that the said antenna provides a better reception of theradio signals than other antennas.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method for detecting the connection of an external antenna to a gateway and for selecting an antenna to be used for exchanging data with a wireless access node. Background technique [0002] LTE (Long Term Evolution) gateways embed internal radio antennas to establish communication with radio access nodes such as eNodeBs. The performance of such internal antennas may not be sufficient to provide a satisfactory reception quality of radio signals transmitted by the radio access node. To improve the situation, an external antenna can be connected to the gateway. [0003] In order to determine which of the internal or external antennas should be used to communicate with the wireless access node, a detection mechanism based on resistivity measurements is run by the gateway. However, such a detection mechanism is unreliable for detecting the connection of a capacitive antenna. Therefore, the method for selecting which of the int...
