Embodiment Construction

[0042] The present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings. The pattern used for detector calibration consists of a linear series of contrasting bright and dark segments; the segments are arranged such that the absolute position of any point on the pattern can be determined from the window portion of the pattern that includes the point; the window portion A predetermined number of segments is included, the predetermined minimum number of segments being less than the total number of segments in the series.

[0043] The series of contrasting light and dark segments of the pattern are arranged to correspond to the binary output of a linear feedback shift register (LFSR). Thus, there is provided a method of generating a pattern comprising a linear series of contrasting bright and dark segments, the method comprising arranging the series of contrasting bright and dark segments in relation to all of a linear feedback shift register (LFSR). The re...

Abstract

A pattern for calibration of a detector comprises of a series of contrasting light and dark segments. The segments being arranged such that the absolute position of any point on the pattern is determinable from a window portion of the pattern comprising the point, wherein the window portion consists of a predetermined minimum number of segments, the predetermined minimum number of segments is lessthan the total number of segments in the series.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to detector calibration, in particular to calibration of cameras and line-scan cameras in multiple directions. Background technique [0002] Calibration of detectors and other optical equipment, such as cameras, is critical to ensure accurate recording and interpretation of images and other data captured by the detectors. Calibration errors can lead to incorrect interpretation of images and data obtained. Calibration of a detector device is typically a time-consuming task requiring multiple steps and often multiple calibration or alignment targets against which to assess the position and focus of the detector. [0003] Different kinds of sorting machines use detectors to generate images that are then analyzed, for example, to determine whether an item to be sorted should be rejected or allowed to continue processing. [0004] In order to properly direct rejected items based on data from detectors (or other sensors), the ...
