Problems solved by technology

In this PSA type liquid crystal display device, in order to control the pretilt angle of liquid crystal molecules, it has a structure in which a polymer structure is formed in the cell, and it is useful as a liquid crystal display element (Patent Document 1) because of its high-speed response and high contrast. There are problems such as the need to increase the size of multiple display devices by bonding them together, and the need for a narrower frame.

Abstract

The present invention addresses the problem of providing a polymerizable liquid crystal composition which has a negative dielectric anisotropy (delta epsilon), satisfies the display in a wide temperature range, the low-voltage drivability and the high-speed responsiveness required by conventional liquid crystal compositions, and does not or rarely cause display defects when being used as a liquidcrystal display element. Also provided is a narrowed-bezel liquid crystal display element using the liquid crystal composition. The liquid crystal composition which contains one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by general formula (N-1) and one or more polymerizable compounds and has the negative dielectric anisotropy (delta epsilon), and the liquid crystal display element which uses the liquid crystal composition, are provided.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a liquid crystal composition and a liquid crystal display element using the same. Background technique [0002] For a display used in PID (Public Information Display, public information display) etc. assumed to be used outdoors, the nematic-isotropic liquid phase transition temperature (T NI ) High, solid phase-nematic phase transition temperature (T CN ) low, low temperature storage stability (Low Temperature Storage test) is excellent, and further requires low driving voltage, elastic constant (K 33 ) large, rotational viscosity (γ 1 ) is sufficiently small. [0003] For such purpose, a PSA (Polymer Sustained Alignment) type liquid crystal display device using a liquid crystal composition having a negative dielectric constant anisotropy (Δε) is used. In this PSA type liquid crystal display device, in order to control the pretilt angle of liquid crystal molecules, it has a structure in which a polymer structure is ...
