Problems solved by technology

This solution also causes the vehicle's engine to work harder and thus use more gasoline than desired as well as overwork the HVAC system and thus potentially cause it to fail sooner
Not to mention, an overworking HVAC system can be loud and therefore irritating to anyone inside the vehicle

Abstract

One general aspect includes a system having one or more heat pads installed at a vehicle, the one or more heat pads configured to provide infrared energy transmissions to a vehicle component to defrost, defog, or both defrost and defog a surface of the vehicle component. The system may also carry out the following steps: (a) determining that ice or fog or both ice and fog has accumulated on the surface of the vehicle component; and (b) based on the determination made in step (a), activating the one or more heat pads to defrost, defog, or both defrost and defog a surface of the vehicle component.

Description

Background technique [0001] like figure 1 As shown in , during the winter months in cold climates, a layer of ice may form on a vehicle's windshield, making it impossible for the vehicle's operator and / or passengers to see through the glass. Therefore, the ice and any remaining fog will have to melt and be sufficiently removed before the vehicle can be operated legally again. One solution to this problem can be found in figure 2 , where HVAC defroster vents mounted in the instrument panel blow heated air onto the lower surface of the windshield. The hot air will generally heat the windshield and melt ice on the windshield, but this solution can be inefficient and ineffective. Air can only reach the point on the windshield directly above the HVAC vent outlet, and heat energy is lost quickly once the air leaves the HVAC vent and as the air travels along the underside of the windshield. As a result, it may take about 10 minutes to melt enough ice on the windshield to make th...
