Embodiment Construction

[0044] Figure 1 to Figure 2 Illustrated is a physical mockup 10 representing the positive shape of a patient's dental arch 12 comprising a plurality of teeth 13 and gingiva 14, a set of appliance analogs 20 (not every appliance is shown for clarity) The three shown analogs or teeth are indicated by reference lines) and the shape formed by the ramp 30 extending from the analog 20 in a generally gingival direction. The exemplary mock-up 10 shown in the figures is the patient's lower dental arch, but it should be understood that the methods of the present disclosure are equally applicable to the patient's upper dental arch. The mockup includes a support body (ie, mold body) 15 that extends beneath the gingiva 14 to provide stability, thereby improving ease of mockup creation and subsequent transfer device fabrication. The mockup 10 also includes a midline groove 60 on one or both of the lingual and labial surfaces of the support body 15 , which may be used to aid in the placeme...

Abstract

A method of making a transfer device includes providing a physical entity model having a shape corresponding to a positive shape of a patient's dental arch and a positive shape of one or more appliance analogs, the one or more appliance analogs including ramps extending in a generally gingival direction from the analogs. A transferred denture may be formed on the physical entity model, wherein the transferred denture represents a negative replica of at least a portion of the entity model. One or more receptacles and associated grooves are formed in the denture, respectively, each receptacle approximates at least a portion of the shape of the appliance analog and each groove approximates at least a portion of the ramp shape. An appliance associated with an appliance analogue is placed in a receiving portion of the one or more receiving portions, and the appliance may be bonded to a tooth surface of a patient's dental arch.

Description

Background technique [0001] Orthodontic appliances are commonly used in orthodontic treatment to move one or more teeth from an initial position (sometimes called misalignment or malocclusion) to a desired position in a patient's dentition. For example, the patient's teeth may be moved such that the labial sides of the teeth align with each other to achieve or maximize an aesthetically pleasing appearance of the entire dentition. Also, in some cases, one or more teeth may be moved to correct the malocclusion. In conventional orthodontic brackets, movement of the teeth is typically accomplished by pre-biased wires that are attached to the teeth via brackets and apply force to the teeth toward a desired position over an extended period of time. The ends of the orthodontic archwire are usually connected to small appliances called buccal tubes, which in turn are secured to the patient's molars. In many examples, a set of brackets, buccal tubes, and archwires are provided for eac...
