Embodiment Construction

[0039] For the sake of simplicity, not all figures are shown in actual scale, and the relative relationship between dimensions is not realistic.

[0040]For the purposes of the present description, the term networked computing environment is defined as an environment in which portable information devices and fixed information devices communicate through wireless network technology. Communication between devices in such an environment is based on area adjacency. The distance over which these devices begin to communicate is small. In this way, it is only possible to start a session when the devices are in the vicinity. Further, the establishment of a correspondence relationship is temporary in nature. This means that whenever two devices are in close proximity, communication on the physical layer can take place. The user of such a device needs to control the flow of information; especially where sensitive information such as credit card details, authentication etc. is involve...

Abstract

The present invention provides a method, an apparatus, and a communication system for the exchange of information in a networked pervasive environment. Therewith an authenticated and secure session can be achieved. Therefor are used a first device and at least a remote second device. A unidirectional wireless communication channel between the first device and the remote second device is initiated, whereby a sequence via the unidirectional wireless communication channel from the first device to the remote second device is sent in order to furnish the remote second device with encryption information. An encrypted response is sent via a wireless broadcast medium to the first device by using said encryption information for encryption.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to methods, apparatus, and communication systems for exchanging information in a networked pervasive environment. More particularly, the present invention relates to an initial program that allows devices to conduct an authenticated and / or secure session. Background technique [0002] Computers that used to be large, rare, and isolated devices have become smaller and more portable. Personal computers and peripherals have become small enough to fit on a work desk. Even smaller are laptops and notebooks. There are computer terminals small enough to fit on a motor vehicle, such as a delivery truck. Even smaller are handheld terminals, typically characterized in use by being portable, where a user can hold the terminal with one hand while operating the terminal with the other hand. Physically connecting the above devices via cables or optical fibers may have disadvantages, such as architectural constraints due to limited c...
