Abstract

The ring metal clip (10) has bindings (12-16), each binding ring includes two ring parts, wherein one end of each ring part is connected to the hinge plate (18, 20). A movable rod (34) extends from one end of the metal clip to the other and contacts the hinge plates to move the hinge plates when the binder is opened. A manually operated trigger (32) is attached to one end of the rod for moving the rod. The trigger includes a slot (40) in which is fitted a pin (44) connected to the rod. When the trigger is moved, the pin moves in the slot. Pulling the trigger from the binder closed position to the binder open position will move the pin through the slot. This causes the lever to move relative to the hinge, forcing the hinge to rotate the respective ring members of each ring away from each other, thereby opening the binder. When the binder is closed, a protrusion (62) formed on the top of the rod engages in an opening in the metal clip's cover (22) to prevent the trigger from inadvertently moving and opening the binder.
