Capacity adjustment system 10 selectively loads compressor 12 to adapt compressor capacity to system demand. Compressor 12 may be a scroll compressor incorporating a medium pressure biasing system as shown in U.S. Patent No. 6,821,092 in the name of the assignee or may be a scroll compressor incorporating a discharge pressure compressor as shown in U.S. Patent No. 6,213,731 in the name of the assignee. Scroll compressors for offset systems, the contents of these two patents are hereby incorporated by reference. While a scroll compressor is described in association with capacity modulation system 10, capacity modulation system 10 may also be used with other types of compressors, including reciprocating compressors, such as shown in U.S. Patent No. 6,206,652 in the name of the assignee compressor, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference.
