Use of sanguisorba officinalis saponin in treating hypoxic pulmonary arterial hypertension

The application discloses a use of taibai araloside in treating hypoxic pulmonary arterial hypertension. In the use of hypoxia to induce pulmonary arterial hypertension, it is found that the taibai araloside can reduce right ventricular pressure and right heart hypertrophy index, and inhibit pulmonary arterial remodeling; the taibai araloside reduces the expression and activity of ACE in the lung in a concentration-dependent manner, and corrects the disorder of the RAS system in the lung caused by hypoxic pulmonary arterial hypertension. Moreover, a monomer component of the taibai araloside, anemarrhena asphodeloides glycoside and chizhenshan saponin IVa, has a stable combination with ACE. The results show that the taibai araloside has the potential to be developed into a drug for preventing and treating hypoxic pulmonary arterial hypertension in the clinic, and also provides a prevention and treatment strategy for interstitial lung disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, sleep apnea syndrome, chronic high altitude disease and neonatal respiratory disease.

The invention therefore provides methods of treating a respiratory disease characterized by mucus hyper-secretion comprising administering to a human patient in need of such treatment a gamma secretase inhibitor (GSI), wherein the administration of a GSI is effective in reducing mucus in such patient's lungs or inhibiting mucus accumulation in said patient's lungs. In some embodiments, the methods of the invention are effective in treating a respiratory disease selected from the group consisting of cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, primary ciliary dyskinesis, chronic bronchitis, asthma, idiopathic and secondary bronchiectasis, bronchiolitis obliterans, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, respiratory infection and mucus accumulation in response to infection. Methods of the invention further include methods of treating cystic fibrosis wherein a GSI is administered to a patient being administered or in need of a CFTR modulator, wherein the mucus in such patient's lungs is reduced or mucus accumulation in such patient's lungs is inhibited.
