Problems solved by technology

This is not suitable for regional wall anomaly detection, since regional motion of the abnormal left ventricle is likely to deviate from the normal to the contour, let alone global motion such as translation or rotation (due to sonographer's hand motion or patient's respiratory motion) , also causing abnormal local motion on the contour

Embodiment Construction

[0032] The present invention relates to methods for detecting and matching anatomical structures. An example where this approach would be used is the detection of regional wall motion abnormalities in the heart by detecting and segmenting the ventricular endocardial and epicardial boundaries via machine learning or classification, and by identifying similarities from an annotated database . Those of ordinary skill in the art will understand that the present invention may be used in other applications where shape detection and matching is useful, such as but not limited to identifying human features, such as facial features or other physical features. The invention can also be used for two-dimensional, three-dimensional and four-dimensional (3D+time) data analysis, eg medical analysis of anatomical structures such as the heart, lungs or tumors which may evolve over time.

[0033] In order to describe the present invention, an example will be described for detecting the endocar...

Abstract

A detection framework that exploits appearance and shape to match anatomical structures is disclosed. Utilize a training set of images in which object shapes or structures are annotated. The second training set of images represents negative examples of this shape and structure, that is, images that do not include such objects or structures. A classification algorithm trained on this training set is used to detect the structure in its place. The structure was matched with a counterpart in the training set who could provide details about the shape and appearance of the structure.
