Embodiment Construction

[0018] The following detailed description, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, is intended as a description of various embodiments of the invention and is not intended to represent the only embodiments in which the invention can be practiced. The detailed description includes specific details in order to provide a thorough understanding of the invention. It will be apparent, however, to one skilled in the art that the present invention may be practiced without these specific details. In some instances, well-known structures and components are shown in block diagram form in order to avoid obscuring the concepts of the present invention.

[0019] FIG. 1 is a conceptual block diagram illustrating an example of a radio communication system. The radio communication system 100 may include an access network (AN) 102 that supports communication with any number of access terminals (AT) 104 . Access network 102 may also be connected to other networks 110a and 110b ext...

Abstract

A pilot assisted channel estimation process. A receiver may be configured to estimate the impulse response of a channel from a signal having pilot tones and spread-spectrum pilot signals. The receiver estimates the response of the channel from the pilot tones, and adapts the length of delay the channel response is estimated based on the spread-spectrum pilot signals.

Description

[0001] Priority claim under 35 U.S.C. §119 [0002] This application for patent claims priority to Provisional Application No. 60 / 579,874, filed June 14, 2004, entitled "Pilot AssistedChannel Estimation," which is assigned to the assignee of this application and is hereby incorporated by reference Incorporated here. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates generally to radio communications and, more particularly, to pilot assisted channel estimation techniques. Background technique [0004] In a typical radio communication system, data to be transmitted is encoded in a Turbo code, which generates a sequence of symbols called "code symbols". Several code symbols can be blocked together and mapped to points on the signal constellation, resulting in a complex sequence of "modulation symbols". This sequence can be applied to a modulator that generates a continuous-time signal that is sent on a wireless channel. [0005] At the receiver, a demodulator generates ...
