Embodiment 1

[0202] Formulation 1 was prepared according to the following procedure. Add 7 grams of Cloisite Na to 21 grams of PEG + , and mix by hand until a homogeneous paste is formed. Partially powdered PVP was added to this paste until ready to handle. The resulting premix was transferred to a Haake mixer with two sigma-blade rotors and heated to 130°C. The remaining PVP was added in small portions over 12 minutes with a stirring rate of 30 rpm. Mixing of the entire formulation was continued for 60 minutes. The resulting compositions are shown in Table 1.

[0205] Hydrogel formulation 1 is transparent, has a fairly high hardness, and can be dissolved in water. The formulation can be applied to body surfaces without significant squeezing. Compared to similar PVP-PEG compositions, the cold flow of this formulation was significantly reduced, a feature likely due to the intercalation of PEG and clay, preventing the for...

Embodiment 2

[0207] In order to increase the dissolution time, the interaction between the polymer components must be strengthened. PVP and PEG are able to form hydrogen bonds between the terminal hydroxyl groups of PEG and the carbonyl groups of PVP. This interaction leads to the formation of a rather rare physical network that prevents rapid dissolution. This additional dissolution delay allows the intercalation process to proceed. In order to increase the density of hydrogen bonds, PEG was replaced by low molecular weight 1,2-PG, and components containing carboxyl groups (Eudragit) or hydroxyl groups (HPC) were additionally added. As a result, two other formulations shown in Table 2, formulation 2 and formulation 3, were prepared.

Embodiment 3

[0213] To increase the ability of the adhesive to bear load (eg, body weight), selected hydrogel formulations are mixed with a hydrocolloid matrix. For this purpose, several formulations containing a SIS-based matrix and a high content of the hydrophilic phase, formulations 4-7 shown in Table 3, were prepared.

[0214] The first stage prepares the PVP / PEG / clay composition as a premix (PM). To 21 grams of PEG, add 7 grams of Cloisite Na + or Cloisite 15A, mix by hand until the mixture is more evenly dispersed, about 5 minutes. During this stage, PEG penetrates into the clay interstices. The dispersion was then placed in a Haake mixer with sigma-blades (a Benbary rotor could be used instead of sigma-blades) at 30 rpm. At room temperature and at 30 rpm, 42 grams of PVP was slowly added over approximately 40 minutes. Therefore, PM contains 60% PVP, 30% PEG and 10% clay.

[0215] Due to the high viscosity of the premix composition, the result is a temperature increase to about...

Abstract

An adhesive composition is described which has improved initial tack, long-term adhesion, water uptake and translucency characteristics and may be prepared by melt extrusion. Uses of these compositions are also described, for example, their use as blister pads and wound dressings.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to adhesive compositions for contacting the skin, and more particularly to novel compositions useful in a number of situations, including as blister patches that can be applied to the skin or other body surface of an individual. Background technique [0002] Many types of bandages and wound dressings are known for protecting wounds, burns and blisters. Typically, wound dressings are made of absorbent material, which removes exudate from the wound, dries the wound, and facilitates healing. Wound dressings may also contain one or more pharmacologically active agents, such as antibiotics, local anesthetics, and the like. Commonly used wound dressings include fibrous materials, such as gauze and cotton pads, which have the advantage that they are absorbent, but the problem is that the fibers can stick to the wound or newly formed tissue, causing damage to the wound when the wound dressing is removed. Other wound dr...
