Abstract

A passenger-side airbag (44) includes a main portion (58) formed in the shape of the letter ''T'' when viewed from the occupant side, and a peripheral portion (56) that is separated from the main portion (58) by a partition member (40). When an inflator (20) is activated, the main portion (58) first expands and deploys, restraining the head region of the occupant. Then when the internal pressure of the main portion (58) becomes a predetermined value or greater, a first vent hole (60) and a second vent hole (62) open such that the peripheral portion (56) expands. As a result, early occupant restraint performance is ensured while the size of the passenger-side airbag (44) is able to be reduced.
