[0035] The present invention is generally directed to trifocal lenses, such as intraocular lenses that provide near, intermediate and distance vision. The trifocal lenses of the present invention advantageously provide enhanced vision performance for intermediate vision compared to conventional trifocal lenses, while retaining and in many cases exceeding the near and distance vision performance of such conventional lenses. In the examples discussed below, various aspects of the trifocal lens of the present invention are illustrated with respect to an intraocular lens. However, it should be understood that the principles of the present invention are similarly applicable to the manufacture of other ophthalmic lenses, such as contact lenses.
