[0019] definition

[0020] As used herein, the term "conjunct polymer" refers to a polymer compound that can form a bond with the cationic species of the ionic liquid catalyst through π-bonds or sigma-bonds or other means, which results in the polymer compound being bonded to the The catalyst is bound so it cannot be removed by simple hydrocarbon extraction.

[0021] The term "isoparaffin" as used herein refers to any branched chain saturated hydrocarbon compound, i.e. having C n h2n+2 Chemical formula branched alkanes. Examples of isoparaffins are isobutane and isopentane.

[0022] The term "alkene" refers to an unsaturated hydrocarbon compound having at least one carbon-carbon double bond, i.e. having C n h 2n Chemical formula of alkenes. Examples of olefins include ethylene, propylene, butene, and the like.

[0023] The term "moving bed" as used herein refers to a fluidized bed formed by the interaction of the ionic liquid catalyst, solvent and aluminum metal within t...

Abstract

Disclosed are a system and an apparatus for regenerating an ionic liquid catalyst, which has been deactivated by conjunct polymers during any type of reaction producing conjunct polymers as a by-product, for example, isoparaffin-olefin alkylation. The system and apparatus are designed such that solvent extraction of conjunct polymers, freed from the ionic liquid catalyst through its reaction with aluminum metal, occurs as soon as the conjunct polymers de-bond from the ionic liquid catalyst.

Description

field of invention [0001] The systems and devices described herein relate to the regeneration of liquid catalysts. More specifically, the systems and devices described herein relate to the regeneration of ionic liquid catalysts. Background technique [0002] Ionic liquids are liquids that are composed entirely of ions as a combination of cations and anions. The most common ionic liquids are those prepared from organic-based cations and inorganic or organic anions. The most common organic cation is the ammonium cation, but phosphonium and sulfonium cations are also frequently used. Pyridinium- and imidazolium-based cations are perhaps the most commonly used cations. Anions include but are not limited to BF 4 - 、PF 6 - , haloaluminate such as Al 2 Cl 7 - and Al 2 Br 7 - , [(CF 3 SO 2 ) 2 N] - , Alkyl Sulfate (RSO 3 - ), carboxylate (RCO 2 -) and many others. The most catalytically interesting ionic liquids for catalysis are those derived from ammonium hali...
