The method comprises the following steps: defining a minimum unit display area, and placing one or more of red, green and blue LED elements in the minimum unit display area; defining a minimum duplication area which comprises at least one minimum unit display area; duplicating the minimum duplication area with the LED elements in traverse and longitudinal directions to form an initial layout of the display module; and respectively selecting an LED element layout template in an LED element layout template base, matching the selected layout template with the initial layout, and deleting the LED element corresponding to the initial layout according to the color of the LED element layout template and a delete mark so as to form a final layout. By utilizing the method and device for laying out the LED display module provided by the invention, the LED elements of the LED display module can be effectively laid out in a visible mode.
