Embodiment Construction

[0033] figure 1 The alarm clock 10 in includes a housing 12 and a time display 14 on the front of the housing 12 to display the current time to the user. An electronic circuit is provided in the housing 12 to control all other functions of the time display 14 and the alarm clock 10. The user can be provided with switches and setting devices on the surface of the housing 12 to set the alarm clock 10, switch alarms, and the like.

[0034] The alarm clock 10 further includes pressure sensors 16, 18, 20 integrated in the lying surface 21 of the bed on which the user 22 lies. Each pressure sensor 16, 18, 20 is connected to the circuit in the housing 12 of the alarm clock 10 by a cable 24. Pressure sensors 16, 18, 20 are provided to measure the respective pressure values, which are transmitted to the circuit in the housing 12 by means of the cable 24.

[0035] The sensors 16, 18, 20 arranged at different positions within the lying surface 21 form an array to determine the current body ...

Abstract

An alarm clock comprises at least one sensor for detecting a body activity level of a human being and is provided to produce a sequence of alarm signals. Each alarm signal within said sequence is suppressible on the detection of a predetermined body activity level. The body activity level required to suppress an alarm signal increases with each subsequent alarm signal within said sequence. A corresponding method for controlling a wake-up alarm comprises the production of a sequence of alarm signals, each alarm signal within said sequence being suppressible on the detection of a predetermined body activity level of a human being, wherein the predetermined body activity level required to suppress an alarm signal increases with each subsequent alarm signal within said sequence. The body activity level of a human being is detected during said sequence, and a present alarm signal is suppressed when the body activity level presently detected is greater than the predetermined body activity level required to suppress the present alarm signal.

Description

Technical field [0001] The invention relates to an alarm clock and a method for controlling the wake-up alarm. Background technique [0002] It is known that an alarm clock generates a wake-up alarm signal at a predetermined time. In most cases, the alarm signal is an acoustic signal that is loud enough to be perceived by a person asleep. Note that other kinds of alarm signals, such as optical signals, can be used. The strength of the alarm signal should be high enough to reliably wake anyone who is asleep. However, it is also desirable to gently wake up the person to avoid sudden shocks from sleep to high physical activity, because such rapid changes in bodily functions are often unpleasant and prove to be unhealthy. There are several medical reasons to avoid such extreme changes in physical activity levels. To give just one example, there is a certain risk of damaging the function of the heart. Instead, it is hoped to gradually wake up in a gentle way so that the body can ...
