Embodiment Construction

[0021] The invention will now be described to enable a person skilled in the art to make and use the invention with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which various elements of the invention are identified by reference numerals. It should be understood that the following description serves only to illustrate the principles of the invention and should not be taken as limiting the ensuing claims. It should also be understood that the terms "touch sensor," "touchpad," "touch screen," "touch input device," and "touch-sensitive device" are interchangeable herein.

[0022] Measurements for tracking multi-finger gestures can come from 1) single-ended shaft measurements of the company's touchpad circuits or 2) balanced measurements as described in pending US Patent Application Serial No. 12 / 855,545. However, these methods produce ghost images when multiple fingers are in contact with the touchpad.

[0023] It is therefore an object of the present invention to enable a user ...

Abstract

A method of performing a two- finger gesture when the absolute position of the fingers does not need to be known in order to perform the gesture, wherein de-ghosting of results from a touch sensor that gives a false position and a real position for each actual finger on the touch sensor is performed by finding a strongest signal when performing a short aperture measurement from one side of the touch sensor so that the direction of a rotation gesture can be determined, and wherein flick and pinch gestures can all be calculated using de-ghosted weighted average and weighted absolute deviation calculations.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 521,470 (Attorney No. 5019.CIRQ.PR), filed in the United States on August 9, 2011, and is incorporated herein by reference for all subject matter contained therein . technical field [0003] The present invention generally relates to touchpad technology. More specifically, the present invention enables the use of multi-finger gestures, where the precise absolute positions of the fingers do not need to be known to perform the gestures. Background technique [0004] There are currently several designs for capacitive sensitive touchpads. One of the existing touchpad designs that can be adapted for the present invention is the Made by the company. Therefore, it is helpful to examine the underlying technology to better understand how to adapt any capacitive sensitive touchpad for use with the present invention. [0005] The company's touchpads...
