Embodiment Construction

[0024] When processing the various messages specified by 3GPP, it may often be useful to identify a user, IP-CAN session, or other entity associated with a message. These entities can be identified based on information carried by the messages, such as subscription identifiers, IP addresses, and / or access point names (APNs). However, in some cases, the available identifying information may not be sufficient to uniquely identify an entity. For example, 3GPP does not require various Accounting and Authorization Requests (AARs) to carry APNs or user identities, and leaves only IP addresses for use in identifying IP-CAN sessions. However, in various implementations, multiple IP-CAN sessions may be associated with the same IP address. As another example, a node may have a record of an expired IP-CAN session that includes the same IP address and APN as the current IP-CAN session.

[0025] In view of this, it is necessary to provide a method for identifying the entity associated wit...

Abstract

Various exemplary embodiments relate to a method and associated network nodes comprising one or more of the steps of: receiving a message; determining whether a network device should use a plurality of entity records to identify an entity associated with the message, wherein the plurality of entities Each entity record of the record corresponds to an entity; if the network device should use multiple entity records to identify the entity associated with the message, then: extract at least one identification value; identify a set of entity records matching the at least one identification value; determine whether the entity record set includes more than one entity record, and if the entity record set includes more than one entity record, then: identify the most recently modified most recent entity record and as a message associated with the entity corresponding to the most recent entity record to process the message.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application cross-references the following co-pending application, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety: Application Serial No. 13 / 273,686, Attorney Docket No. ALC3752, Mann et al., "Processing Messages Using Incomplete Master Identification Information." technical field [0003] Various exemplary embodiments disclosed herein relate generally to telecommunications networks. Background technique [0004] As the demand for various application types within mobile telecommunications networks increases, service providers must continually update their systems to reliably provide this expanded functionality. Systems once designed for voice-only communication have evolved into multi-purpose network access points capable of providing access to a variety of applications, including text messaging, multimedia streaming and general Internet access. To support these applications, providers built networks o...
