Embodiment Construction

[0016] The following detailed description is directed to techniques for video conferencing that can correctly select the active speaker and avoid incorrectly selecting a microphone or camera that is picking up audio or video from a remote signal from a connection. In the following detailed description, reference is made to the accompanying drawings, which form a part hereof and are shown by way of illustration of specific embodiments or examples. Referring now to the drawings, in which like numerals represent like elements throughout the several views, aspects of a computing system and methodology for videoconferencing will be described.

[0017] figure 1 is an exemplary configuration of transmitter system 105 of videoconferencing system 100 . Transmitter system 105 has camera and microphone selection and control system 120, video marker generator 125, video signal combiner 130 providing video output signal 135, audio marker generator 140, and audio signal combiner 145 provid...

Abstract

A video conferencing system is described that is configured to select an active speaker without mistakenly selecting a microphone or camera that is picking up audio or video from a connected remote signal. A determination is made whether the audio signal is above a threshold level. If so, a determination is made as to whether a marker is present in the audio signal. If yes, ignore the signal. If not, the camera is directed to the sound source identified by the audio signal. A determination is made whether a marker is present in the video signal from the camera. If yes, redirect the camera. If not, local marker(s) are inserted into the audio signal and / or video signal. Emit the tagged signal(s). Therefore, the system will ignore sound or video with embedded markers from another video conferencing system.

Description

Background technique [0001] Video conferencing has become commonplace, and many offices have rooms specially configured for video conferencing sessions. Such rooms typically contain video conferencing equipment, such as one or more movable cameras and one or more microphones, typically placed in positions in the room around tables for participants. Active speaker detection (ASD) is often used to select the camera, or to move (pan and / or tilt) the camera to show who is speaking in the room and / or to select a microphone to be active. While the remote person is speaking, their image and / or sound is emitted from an audio-visual display in the room such as a television (TV), monitor or other type of display. This may cause the ASD to erroneously select the image on the TV of the speaking remote person instead of the last speaking local person. [0002] Also, in a multi-location video conferencing session, where three or more separate locations are in a single video conferencing s...
