Embodiment Construction

[0019] The following description of the preferred embodiments is merely exemplary in nature and in no way intended to limit the invention, its application or uses.

[0020] refer to Figure 4 and 6 , shows a fluid injector, generally indicated at 10', in accordance with an embodiment. The injector 10' is constructed and arranged as a reductant delivery unit (RDU) for a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system. Such as Figure 6 As shown, injector 10' includes an inlet cup assembly having an inlet cup 20 coupled to a cup tube 22 defining an inlet of injector 10'. Cup 22 is constructed and arranged to connect to a source of fluid, such as urea, for introduction into injector 10'. Inlet cup 20 is connected to shield 14 , and shield 24 generally surrounds housing 26 , which includes electrical connectors 28 . Figure 4 The inlet cup assembly or shield 14 is not shown so that the underlying components can be clearly seen.

Abstract

The present invention relates to an injector water intrusion seal having a burst volume. The fluid injector includes a housing and a portion of an inlet tube received in the housing. The primary seal forms a seal between the inlet of the injector, the inlet tube, and the surface of the housing. A groove is in the housing and a secondary seal is in the groove to define a seal between a portion of the inlet of the injector and the housing. A recessed portion is defined in the housing and communicates with the groove. The recessed portion defines a burst volume such that when the primary seal is leak tested, as pressurized air moves past the primary seal and forces a portion of the secondary seal to an unsealed position into the burst volume, An indication of a leak in the primary seal can be detected.

Description

[0001] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 901,504, filed November 8, 2013, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0002] The present invention relates generally to secondary seals for preventing liquid from entering an injector, and more particularly to a burst volume receivable for a portion of the secondary seal. Background technique [0003] refer to figure 1 and 2 , a fluid injector, shown generally at 10, used as a reductant delivery unit (RDU) in a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system, including a main o-ring 12 to seal urea introduced into the injector 10 and prevent Liquid (eg, water) invades the interior 16 of the injector 10 . Even with the main seal 12, as figure 2 As shown by the arrow in , water can intrude through the injector shield 14 and move below the main O-ring 12 and into the interior 16 of the injector 10 (between the housing 26 and the inlet tube 30 ). The intru...
