Embodiment Construction

[0010] reference figure 1 , Shows a view of the engine 104 used to power various machines, including road trucks, construction vehicles, marine ships, static generators, motor vehicles, agricultural vehicles, and recreational vehicles. In the example shown, the vehicle 100 is an agricultural tractor. The engine 104 may be of any size and configuration (for example, "V" type, in-line, and star type), and have any number of cylinders. The engine 104 may be a diesel engine.

[0011] Next, refer to figure 2 with 3 The engine 104 includes an engine body 108, a cylinder head 106, a combustion chamber 126 and a piston 112. The piston 112 is connected to the crankshaft of the engine 104 through a connecting rod 130. The combustion activity causes the piston 112 to reciprocate along a linear path in the cylinder 110, and the cylinder 110 is partially formed by the sleeve 119 in at least some embodiments. The combustion chamber 126 is formed at the end of the cylinder 110 and is bounde...

Abstract

Provided is a piston for user in an engine. A piston having an outer surface and a bottom surface. The bottom surface comprises a convex region, a concave region, and a circumferential edge. The convex region is intersected by a longitudinal piston axis defined by the piston. The convex region is radially inward of and in contact with the concave region, the concave region is radially inward of an in contact with the circumferential edge, and the circumferential edge is radially inward of and in contact with the outer surface.

Description

Technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to a piston for an engine. Background technique [0002] The engine includes the engine body, cylinder head, combustion chamber and piston. The piston is connected to the crankshaft of the engine through a connecting rod. The combustion activity in the combustion chamber causes the piston to reciprocate along a linear path in the cylinder. The combustion chamber is formed at the end of the cylinder and is defined by the cylinder head at the first end and by the top of the piston at the second end. Known engines use various methods for increasing the combustion rate of fuel, to name a few examples, including swirling, fuel impingement on the surface, and multiple nozzles. These methods cause undesirable and unnecessary heat loss through the piston, cylinder, and cylinder head. Summary of the invention [0003] A piston having an outer surface and a bottom surface is disclosed. The bottom surface includes raised areas, reces...
