Abstract

The present invention provides systems and methods for improving tire uniformity, eg, to reduce cavity noise and other effects caused by localized tire surface anomalies. The local tire surface anomalies may manifest as local peaks in radial eccentricity of the tire or other uniformity parameters (eg, radial force variations). The local peak of radial eccentricity may be within the uniformity tolerance of radial eccentricity, but cavity noise may still be promoted by high harmonic effects caused by the local peak. According to aspects of the present invention, the location and / or other identifiable features of localized tire surface anomalies may be identified. An ablation device may be used on the tread of the tire to remove tire material at azimuthal locations associated with the localized tire surface anomalies to improve the uniformity of the tire.
