[0017] now refer to figure 1 , a person with diabetes 100 and a health care professional 102 are shown in a clinical setting. Persons with diabetes include persons with metabolic syndrome, prediabetes, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and gestational diabetes, and are collectively referred to as patients. Healthcare providers for diabetes are diverse and include nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, and endocrinologists, commonly known as clinicians. Although reference is made to diabetes, the description extends to other chronic diseases.

[0018] During a health care consultation, the patient 100 typically shares a variety of patient data with the clinician 102, including blood glucose measurements, continuous glucose monitor data, the amount of insulin infused, the amount of food and drink consumed, exercise schedules and other lifestyle information. Clinician 102 may obtain additional patient data including measurements of patient 100's HbA1C, cholesterol level, tri...

Abstract

A computer-implemented method for communicating messages generated by a continuous glucose monitor (CGM), the method comprising: generating a first message at the CGM at a first time, the first message relating to a blood glucose measurement; generating a second message at the CGM at a time after the first time, the second message relating to a blood glucose measurement; determining an elapsed time since the transmitter of the CGM has transmitted the data; determining whether the elapsed time is greater than a threshold; responding to the elapsed time is greater than a threshold, determining whether the second message is to be transmitted before the first message; and in response to determining that the second message is to be transmitted before the first message, transmitting the same message as the first message before transmitting data corresponding to the first message to the diabetes management device Data corresponding to the second message.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to medical devices, and more particularly to systems and methods for presenting data generated by continuous glucose monitors. Background technique [0002] Advances in medical technology have resulted in medical devices that allow patients to manage their medical conditions with relative ease. For example, decades ago, a patient suffering from diabetes would find it difficult to monitor and control the glucose level in his bloodstream by himself. Today, however, a patient suffering from diabetes can monitor the glucose level in his bloodstream using a portable blood glucose monitor and, if necessary, administer a dose of insulin to control the glucose level in his bloodstream. [0003] Some blood glucose monitors, such as continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), continuously generate raw data corresponding to glucose levels in a patient's bloodstream by measuring, for example, glucose levels in interstitial fluid t...
