Embodiment Construction

[0014] Methods and systems are developed for designing garments that take into account the motion of the wearer. figure 1 An exemplary embodiment of a method 100 according to the present disclosure is described. In step 101 of method 100, a user of the method identifies key body movements / positions required by the wearer of the particular garment to be designed. Exemplary key body movements include reaching and lifting, squatting, twisting while descending, striding, and bending.

[0015] Key body movements and positions may vary based on the intended use of the garment in the design. For example, a carpenter may have an associated set of body motion, mobility, and clothing / body interaction, while a bricklayer has a different associated set.

[0016] In step 102 of method 100 , capture of motion data for skin movements is performed while the test subject performs the key body motion identified in step 101 . In one embodiment, motion data capture is performed by applying pho...

Abstract

A method for mapping wearer mobility includes identifying common usage patterns and usage positions by the garment wearer, attaching markers used in motion capture photography to the bare skin of a test subject, and recording position and movement data of the test subject while the test subject repeats the common usage patterns and usage positions. The position and movement data are processed to create an opportunity map which identifies stretch and compression areas of the test subject. Markers are attached to a garment worn by a test subject and position and movement data are recorded while the test subject repeats the common usage patterns and usage positions. The data are analyzed to create a problem map which identifies stretch and compression areas of the garment. A mobility map is created based on the opportunity map and problem map that creates a garment design that reduces compression and stretch area.

Description

[0001] This application claims priority to US Nonprovisional Application No. 14 / 066,501, filed October 29, 2013, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0002] The present invention relates generally to clothing design. More specifically, the present invention relates to a system and method for computerized mapping of wearer mobility for apparel design. Background technique [0003] Garments designed for work uniforms tend to experience tension and restriction in various locations of the garment as the wearer performs various activities. In some jobs, these activities are often repetitive and can cause discomfort to the wearer. Garments designed to provide a better fit to the wearer have the distinct advantage of providing greater comfort and longer life. Accordingly, there is a need for a process and system for designing apparel in response to a wearer's motion. Contents of the invention [0004] A system and method for mapping wear...
