Embodiment Construction

[0015] As used in this specification, each of the pairs of terms upper and lower, top and bottom, and top and bottom can be defined by terms such as left and right, first and second sides, and first and second walls. Terms are interchanged and replaced. They are only used for orientation with respect to the figures on the paper to help describe the structure of the detailed ribbon cutter.

[0016] The hand-held tape cutter embodying the structure of the present invention is in Figure 1-Figure 3 shown in . The tape cutter 10 has a body 12 forming a slot 14 for receiving the end of the tape to be cut. The main body includes a blade mounting block (or may be referred to as a "blade support block") 16 fastened to one end of a deck (or may be referred to as a "guide plate" or "desk mounting plate") 18 . Blade mounting block 16 is L-shaped with depending legs 20 attached to deck 18 by fastening hardware 21 . The leg 20 closes the slot 14 along one side. A portion 17 of the bla...

Abstract

A tape cutter for cutting the end of a tape having regularly spaced ridges on one side. The tape cutter has a body with a slot to receive the end of the tape. A blade extends from the body into the slot. The mesa has one or more grooves defining one end of the groove. The grooves receive the ridges of the strip and align the strip relative to the blade. A handle is provided to pull the cutter across the width of the strap in a direction parallel to the spine so that the blades sever the end from the strap and form a new butted end parallel to the spine.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a hand-held cutting tool having a material receiving opening and a material guide. Background technique [0002] Tape cutters are used to cut the strips to specified lengths and make precisely oriented cuts at the strip ends before the strips are welded together. Accurate cutting is especially important in belts with regularly spaced drive teeth. If the cut line is not positioned accurately with respect to the teeth, the tooth spacing across the welded cut end will not match the regular tooth spacing or pitch of the belt. One common method of cutting belts, including toothed belts, is by running a blade along a straight edge that lies across the width of the belt. But incorrect placement of the straight edge and uneven pulling of the knife along the straight edge can affect the accuracy of the cut. Whereas when straight edges are used, the strap usually must be supported from below. Contents of the invention [00...
