Embodiment Construction

[0016] refer to figure 1 and figure 2 , a collet attachment assembly for a machine tool (not shown) is generally indicated by numeral 10 . The collet attachment assembly 10 includes a tie rod 20 removably secured to a collet 30 . The collet 30 is detachably disposed in the collet bushing 40 . Pull rod 20 and chuck 30 pass flexible connector 50 (such as image 3 joints shown) are secured to each other in the manner described herein. The tie rod 20, the collet 30 and the collet bushing 40 are made of suitable metal materials such as steel or stainless steel. In one embodiment, the collet bushing is a fixed bushing, while in another embodiment, the collet bushing is an adjustable bushing.

[0017] Such as figure 1 As shown, tie rod 20 includes a first longitudinal axis L1 , and a bore 21 formed by an inner surface 21K of tie rod 20 . The tie rod 20 includes: the first connecting portion 22 of the flexible connecting member 50 near one end 20A of the tie rod 20 ; and the m...

Abstract

A flexible connection for attaching a collet to a tie rod is disclosed, comprising: a tie rod having a first longitudinal axis and a first connection portion. The first connecting portion includes two or more spaced apart struts, each of said struts having a first connecting surface formed thereon. The flexible connector includes a collet having a second longitudinal axis and a gripping portion adjacent one end of the collet. The collet includes a second connection portion proximate the second end of the collet. The second connection portion has a second connection surface formed thereon and is configured to be complementary in shape to the first connection surface such that the first connection surface movably engages the second connection surface such that The first longitudinal axis is coaxial with the second longitudinal axis when an axial force is applied to the tie rod and collet.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a connector for attaching a collet to a tie rod, and more particularly to a flexible connector having a movable portion that engages a mating portion of the connector. Background technique [0002] A collet is a device with two or more "jaw sections" between which an object such as a tool or workpiece can be placed. The jaw portion forms a hoop around the object. The jaw portion of the collet tightens around the object by deflecting radially inwardly. Radially inward deflection of the jaw portions may be achieved by pushing on a suitable mechanism, such as a collet bushing, provided around the collet. Another type of collet is called a tie-rod collet, which is a tapered collet and is pulled into a sleeve (such as a collet bushing) by a tie rod so that the jaw portion tightens around the tool or around the workpiece. Collets are usually made of steel, a material that allows the jaw portions to be sufficiently flexibl...
