[0033] In some wireless systems, a user equipment (UE) can be configured with multiple component carriers (CCs) for carrier aggregation (CA) operation. The UE can be configured to report channel conditions per CC using periodic CSI (P-CSI) reporting. The size of the uplink control information transmission may increase as the number of CCs in the CA configuration increases. Therefore, different physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) formats may be used according to the number of CCs. As disclosed herein, the UE may select a particular PUCCH format for uplink control messages based on the relative importance placed on the P-CSI report. Techniques for supporting multiple P-CSI reporting for a single CC are also described, eg, to support certain operations in eCA configurations.

Abstract

Methods, systems and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may detect the size of a payload used to report hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback for transmissions on a set of component carriers (CCs) and may determine whether there is a scheduling request (SR) and / or a periodic Channel State Information (P‑CSI) reporting. The UE may compare the size of an uplink control message, which may include a HARQ payload size and a payload for SR or P-CSI reporting, to a threshold to select an uplink control format. If the uplink control message has a payload size above a threshold, the selected uplink control format may be associated with a larger number of CCs. The UE may also use a configuration for sending two or more P‑CSI reports during a subframe for a carrier aggregation (CA) configured CC. P‑CSI reports shall be transmitted during a given subframe.
