Abstract

The present application relates to systems and methods for diesel exhaust fluid injector cleaning. Methods and systems are provided for cleaning urea-clogged diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) injectors included in selective catalytic reduction (SCR) engine exhaust aftertreatment systems. In one example, a method includes operating an engine in a DEF injector cleaning mode in response to a diagnostic code indicative of a clogged DEF injector, which includes operating the engine at a high idle speed, activating a DEF pump to deliver a desired injector at a desired flow rate. The amount of DEF, and the duty cycle of DEF pump activation was measured during DEF delivery. Resume of DEF flow is indicated in response to the duty cycle being greater than a threshold duty cycle for a duration.
