Abstract

Disclosed is a single-use, sterile, disposable catheter placement aid for assisting aseptic placement of a transurethral catheter in a female patient. Methods of catheter placement using the device are also disclosed. The catheter placement aid includes a labial divider with flared wings having a curved profile. Wings meet in trough. The catheter placement aid also includes a backing that covers the perineal tissue containing the anus to prevent bacterial contamination of the sterile catheter and may further include a spout that can be inserted shallowly into the vagina to position the catheter device for optimal labial separation, retrovaginal Wall retraction, perineal shielding, and urethral visualization. Additional features such as light sources, handles, catheter tip holders, swab storage locations, and stackable configurations may be further included with the catheter placement aid.
