Embodiment

[0056] Preclinical work (Fig. 11) has demonstrated that at very high voltages, the effect of plasma-mediated ablation using RF energy within non-occluded vessels can result in effects that propagate into the vessel wall. In particular, medial dissection and / or perivascular hemorrhage may occur in the outer vessel wall. However, by varying the radiofrequency delivery settings, these effects can be controlled such that they enhance delivery of the composition into the vessel wall or occlusion without deleterious effects. Examples of changes may include reducing voltage or current levels, modifying pulse period, modifying pulse duration, or modifying the number of pulses delivered during radio frequency delivery.

[0057] As an example, in the case of occlusions in vessel walls, it has been demonstrated that using voltages in the range of 1200V to 2000V can ablate tissue and create a pathway through the occlusion in a very short period of time. Less energy or lower voltages may ...

Abstract

Methods and devices that provide enhanced delivery of a composition to a body region of a patient utilizing radiofrequency energy include directing a first electrode and a second electrode coupled toa radiofrequency energy source to a location proximate to the body region. Radiofrequency energy is provided in modulated pulses from the radiofrequency energy source to the body region from at leastone of the first electrode and the second electrode to provide a delivery condition configured to enhance delivery of the composition. The composition is delivered proximate to the body region using acomposition delivery element. Devices for enhance composition delivery are also disclosed.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 410,685, filed October 20, 2016, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to a method and device for enhancing delivery of a composition. Background technique [0004] Current methods and devices for treating occlusions in the body (vessel or graft) employ balloon catheters or stents to deliver drugs inside the vessel. Drug-eluting stents offer the advantage that the device can be designed to extend drug delivery for weeks or months by altering the drug-eluting profile, but in most cases this leaves a metallic stent. A drug coated balloon offers the advantage of leaving nothing behind, however, due to the fact that the blood vessel is occluded by the balloon while the drug is being delivered, the drug is delivered for a shorter period of time. [0005] In bo...
