Abstract

The present invention discloses that in a method and system for making an abrasive article, abrasive particles are loaded into a dispensing tool comprising a plurality of upper walls defining a plurality of spaced slots and a plurality of lower walls defining a plurality of dispensing slots. The spacer slots open to the distribution slots, which open to the underside of the tool. The loaded particles are spaced apart and dispensed by a dispensing tool to the main face of the backing web beneath the underside and moving in the machine direction relative to the tool. The upper wall spaces the particles longitudinally. Particles dispensed by the lower wall undergo an orientation sequence in which each particle is oriented in longitudinally aligned columns. The upper wall can be arranged obliquely to the lower wall. The upper and lower walls may have pointed upper portions.
