Embodiment Construction

[0031] The present disclosure includes a camera module for an occupant monitoring system (OMS) that does not require an image sensor mounted flush with a rigid printed circuit board (PCB) to align with the occupant's orientation in order to image the occupant.

[0032] Occupant monitoring systems include one or more digital cameras that image the occupants (eg, the operator) while driving. The processor in the OMS system is configured (e.g., by software) to analyze digital images (e.g., eye tracking, eyelid monitoring, facial recognition, etc.) for signs that the driver is engaging in potentially unsafe behavior (e.g., lack of attention, drowsiness sleep, sleep, etc.). The OMS can alert the driver (eg, via lights, messages, and / or sound) when behavior is detected. If the behavior persists, the OMS can take other measures to prevent the accident (eg, apply the brakes).

[0033] Cameras (eg, camera modules, camera assemblies) for OMS are typically integrated with the steering ...

Abstract

A camera module for an occupant monitoring system is disclosed. The camera module includes a housing having an interior cavity and an aperture on one surface. An image sensor is located within the chamber and aligned with the aperture. A lens is positioned along the optical axis between the image sensor and the aperture to focus light entering the aperture onto the image sensor. To reflect light into the aperture from a field of view not along the optical axis, the camera module includes a planar reflector extending at an angle from the surface of the housing and above the aperture.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Application No. 62 / 443,880, filed January 9, 2017, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present disclosure generally relates to occupant monitoring systems for vehicles. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to compact camera modules for imaging occupants. Background technique [0004] Various advanced driver assistance systems include visual, acoustic and / or sensor warnings. Some of these warnings are in response to external hazards (eg, approaching another object). Recently, however, the number of potential distractions for the driver has increased (eg, mobile phones, mp3 players, internal displays, etc.). It is becoming increasingly popular for occupant monitoring systems (eg, driver monitoring systems, operator monitoring systems) to be included in vehicles, for example, to issue a warning when a...
