Embodiment Construction

[0032] Reference will now be made in detail to the exemplary aspects of the present disclosure, which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. Wherever possible, the same reference numbers will be used throughout the drawings to refer to the same or like parts.

[0033] The present disclosure relates to a cable spool that is transitionable between an operational state and a stowed state. In an operable state, the spool is configured to receive and hold a coil of electrical cable. In the stowed state, the spool has a reduced three-dimensional footprint compared to the operative state. The spool cannot hold the cable when in the retracted state.

[0034] figure 1 with 2 The exemplary spool 100 is shown configured in an operative condition. The spool 100 includes a drum 110 extending along a height H between a first axial end 111 and a second axial end 112 . A first radial flange 114 is arranged at the first axial end 111 and a second radial flange 116 is arranged at ...

Abstract

The spool is transitionable between an operational (ie cable ready) state and a stowed (ie return ready) state. In an operable state, the spool is configured to receive and hold a coil of electrical cable. In the stowed state, the spool has a reduced three-dimensional footprint compared to the operative state, thereby facilitating storage and return of the spool. The spool can be releasably locked in an operable condition. Upon release of the lock, the spool can freely transition between the two states to facilitate re-use of the spool.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application was filed as a PCT International Patent Application on March 28, 2019, and claims priority to U.S. Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 649,850, filed March 29, 2018, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. Background technique [0003] Communication cables (eg, fiber optic cables, coaxial cables, twisted pair cables, and power cables) are typically packaged on spools and shipped to the installation site. Larger spools tend to be made durable (eg, of metal or plastic) and thus reusable. However, storage and transportation of these spools can be expensive and / or space consuming. Smaller spools are usually made of cardboard and are intended for single use only. When cables have been deployed from such spools, the spools are often discarded, thereby creating waste. [0004] needs improvement. Contents of the invention [0005] Some aspects of the present disclosure relate to a ...
