[0039] The present invention is a new method of designing multifocal optical elements. This approach allows the designer to focus on specific regions of the optical element surface where obtaining satisfactory optical properties is more important. This approach also allows the designer to control the optical performance along the surface curve and in the neighborhood of the curve.
