Handwritten word recognition based on geometric decomposition

A method of recognizing a handwritten word of cursive script comprising providing a template of previously classified words, and optically reading a handwritten word so as to form an image representation thereof comprising a bit map of pixels. The external pixel contour of the bit map is extracted and the vertical peak and minima pixel extrema on upper and lower zones respectively of this external contour are detected. Feature vectors of the vertical peak and minima pixel extrema are determined and compared to the template so as to generate a match between the handwritten word and a previously classified word. A method for classifying an image representation of a handwritten word of cursive script is also provided. Also provided is an apparatus for recognizing a handwritten word of cursive script. This apparatus comprises a template of previously classified words, a reader for optically reading a handwritten word, and a controller being linked thereto for generating a match between the handwritten word and the previously classified words. Two algorithms are provided for respectively correcting the skew and slant of a word image.

Method and apparatus for completing multiple production zones from a single wellbore

Method and apparatus for producing multiple zones from a single wellbore wherein a hollow whipstock is used to complete a lateral into an upper zone which lies above a lower producing zone. The whipstock has openings through its tapered face which, in turn, are sealed by dissolvable plugs (e.g. aluminum). Once the lateral has been completed, a reagent (e.g. hydrochloric acid) is pumped down the wellbore to dissolve the plugs and open the openings through the face of the whipstock thereby allowing the flow from the lower zone to pass through the whipstock to be produced up through the wellbore along with the flow from the upper production zone.

The bit body further comprises a shank that is configured for connection into the drillstring at its upper extent and has a generally cylindrical receptacle formed in its lower extent; and a bit body portion having a generally cylindrical upper extent, the receptacle being and dimensioned to receive the upper extent of the bit body, wherein the shank and bit body portions are secured together by welding.

A technique is disclosed for completion of a well, such as an oil and gas production well. A packer is positioned in the well to divide the well into upper and lower zones. The packer has multiple passageways between the upper and lower zones. A pumping system is positioned in the lower zone for displacing wellbore fluids flowing from a production formation. The pumping system may include a liquid / gas separator, and express gas-phase components through one of the passageways and liquid-phase components through another. A conduit conveys the gas-phase components to a desired location. The liquid-phase components are conveyed to a collection location in the annular region surrounding the conduit. The conduit may be used for positioning a chemical injection line within the well, or for receiving a parameter sensing unit. The chemical injection and parameter sensing may be performed independently of gas production, and without interruption of either gas or liquid production.

Accordingly, the crystallization-inducing metal existing in the channel region of the polycrystalline silicon layer can be effectively removed, and thus a thin film transistor having an improved leakage current characteristic and an OLED display device including the same can be fabricated.
