Problems solved by technology

If the change is made before the scanner, the scanner can detect the change; however there will be a lag and the precise location of the impact may not be known because other variables are constantly changing
Therefore, the operator may not know the precise location of the part of the paper machine that introduces a certain variability into the system

Abstract

The invention relates to a formation detection system and a process of controlling. The formation detection system comprises: (a) one or more sensors and (b) one or more lights that illuminate a location of interest so that the one or more sensors can monitor the location of interest; wherein one of the one or more sensors are located substantially planar with a net of a paper machine and proximate to a lip opening so that the one of the one or more sensors is adjacent to a cut portion so that the one of the one or more sensors is capable of measuring paper stock above the net and removed water below the net, and wherein the one of the one or more sensors is capable of measuring a distance between an impingement location of a stock jet and the net and a forming board.

Description

technical field [0001] The present teachings relate to a formation detection system connected to a control system for monitoring and controlling the formation along one or more sections of a paper machine, and preferably along the entire length of the paper machine. Background technique [0002] Typically, a Fourdrinier paper machine comprises a wet section with a wire moving in the machine direction. The web has a width (ie, cross direction), and the stock is applied substantially along the entire width of the web. A plurality of scrapers are located under the wire and assist in removing water from the paper stock on the wire. The scrapers are usually static, but actuated foils and scrapers have been added to the wet end in recent years. Users typically change paper machines by adjusting machine characteristics such as lip opening or machine speed based on dry test results. The paper machine can be further modified in the press section, dryer section, calender section or...
