Problems solved by technology

Any component of the system may result in an incorrect flow rate being delivered to the patient with associated adverse adverse reactions in the patient
[0011] While some adverse treatment events may have been the result of user error, many reported adverse events with previous systems were related to deficiencies in delivery system design and engineering, with the risk typically of excessive flow rates or high output pressures
The extra calculations required for each change in the needle and tube setup and controller add unnecessary complexity and points of error
These deficiencies create problems in themselves, or result in user error due to inappropriate flow rates of infused fluid at the patient infusion site

Abstract

A system, applicator and method of manufacture for delivering infusion fluid into a tissue space of a patient, comprising: a controller preset to deliver infusion fluid at a desired flow rate; and a drug delivery device matched with the controller, the drug delivery device comprising a predetermined number of flow tubes, the diameter and length of the flow tubes being selected based on the desired flow rate and number of infusion sites for specific infusion fluid therapy.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to systems and methods for precise matching of selectable flow rate controllers and needle sets. More particularly, the present invention relates to an optional flow rate controller and needle device to safely and accurately deliver fluids for infusion therapy using a constant pressure injection driver. Background technique [0002] Most infusion systems on the market today are powered and function by delivering fluid at a preset flow rate. To maintain the preset flow rate, the system must increase pressure in response to any blockage or other increase in fluid resistance from anywhere in the infusion circuit. This increased pressure can cause severe site reactions, pain, and tissue necrosis. Other infusion systems consist of mechanical injection drives, but these typically require the selection of separate flow tubes for each desired flow rate that cannot be easily changed once infusion has begun. Still other...
