Embodiment Construction

[0019] With reference to the drawings in detail, first refer to figure 1 with 2 , The present invention is incorporated in an electrical connector marked 10, the connector is used to bridge the edge of a circuit board (not shown), and near the edge on at least one side of the circuit board Circuit traces, which are well known in the art. The connector 10 includes an insulating housing labeled 12, which defines a front mating surface 14 and a rear end connecting surface 16. A number of terminals marked 18 are installed in the housing. A shield labeled 20 is mounted on the housing, mainly at the front of the housing, which will be described in detail below.

[0020] The housing 12 of the connector 10 is elongated and includes a plurality of generally centered terminal receiving channels 22 ( figure 2 ), these passages extend between the front mating surface 14 and the rear mating surface 16 of the housing, and are used to receive the wiring terminals 18 in at least three rows. The...

Abstract

An electrical connector (10) is provided for straddle mounting at an edge of a circuit board. The connector includes a dielectric housing (12) defining a slot (32) for receiving the edge of the board. A plurality of terminals (18) are mounted on the housing (12) and include contact portions (68) for connection to the circuit traces on the board. A flexible gripping arm (38) is integral with the housing (12) at one side (36) of the slot (32) for yieldably engaging the circuit board upon insertion of the board into the slot. A ground tab (58) extends from a shielding plate (46) on the mating face (14) of the connector (10) through the housing (12) adjacent to the slot (32) for contacting a ground pad on the circuit board.

Description

Technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the field of electrical connectors, and in particular to a connector installed across the edge of a circuit board, wherein at least one side of the circuit board near the edge has circuit traces. Background technique [0002] The electrical connector is usually mounted on a circuit board, and the contact portions of a plurality of terminals mounted on the connector housing are connected to circuit traces on the surface of the circuit board, for example, by soldering. Usually, the connector is flush with the surface of the circuit board or installed near the edge of the circuit board, where a part of the connector housing can overlap the edge of the circuit board. For these surface mount connectors, the connector housing is generally mounted on the circuit board by inserting mounting posts into the mounting holes of the circuit board in a direction substantially perpendicular to the circuit board. The mounting post does not h...
