Embodiment Construction

[0052] figure 1 and 2 Denotes a lens inspection system, generally indicated by reference numeral 10 , which has a light emitting module 12 and an image pickup device 14 . As described in detail below, lens inspection system 10 is capable of detecting marks or defects in contact lens 16 (collectively referred to hereinafter as "marks"). Note also that the word "marking" as used herein includes any type of marking on the lens under examination, whether intentionally placed or not. Examples of intentionally placed markings include toric or rotational markings, inversion markings, manufacturer identification markings, and the like.

[0053] In the preferred structure of inspection system components, starting from figure 1 As can be seen in the figure, the light emitting modules 12 are placed in a generally vertically spaced relationship above the imaging device 14 (eg, a CCD camera), but other constituent structures can be used as desired. Basic operations of the inspection sy...

Abstract

A method for tracking multiple SKUs of contact lenses in a manufacturing line comprising the steps of: a) moulding a plurality of contact lenses, b) providing a plurality of carriers each having a carrier indicator, c) inspecting each contact lens to determine information relating to its prescription, d) transferring each lens to a carrier, e) reading the carrier indicator of the carrier of step d) and f) storing in machine-accessible memory the information associated with the carrier indicator of the carrier of step (e) and the information relating to the lens for step (c).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to contact lens manufacturing, and more particularly to a method of tracking contact lenses through a production line so that multiple stock keeping units (SKUs) can be manufactured simultaneously on the same production line. Background technique [0002] In a known automated contact lens production process, contact lenses are formed by sandwiching a reactive mixture between two mold parts having concave and convex optical surfaces, respectively, that define the lens. The reaction mixture is dispensed into the concave surface forming the front curve of the lens, and the second mold part is placed on the first mold part such that the convex surface forming the back curve of the lens is placed on the concave surface so that the concave surface and the convex surface A mold cavity is formed between them. The reaction mixture in the assembled mold undergoes a curing cycle which polymerizes the monomer within the mold cavity. ...
