Problems solved by technology

This rotation can destabilize the shoe because the cleat can thus rotate as the shoe is worn and various torques are applied to the cleat due to ground contact
In addition, the anti-skid device cannot be easily removed from the receiver

Embodiment Construction

[0011] definition. As used in this specification and the appended claims, the following terms shall have the indicated meanings unless otherwise required herein:

[0012] "Shoes" means any covering for the feet including, but not limited to, athletic shoes, sandals, boots, and slippers.

[0013] In some embodiments of the present invention, a cleat receptacle is provided that resists torsion when installed in an outsole of a shoe. The receptacle includes a structure for engaging the cleat by inserting the cleat into the structure and rotating the cleat about an axis of the structure. The receiver has a flange or set of flanges connected to the cleat engagement structure. The flange has a substantially inclined portion with respect to a plane perpendicular to the axis of the cleat engagement structure. When twisted, the angled portion of the flange compresses the adjacent outsole material, thereby resisting twisting. The slope of the flange can vary from at least about 5 de...

Abstract

A cleat receptacle (100) for footwear. The cleat receptacle includes a cleat-engaging structure (110) surrounded by a flange. The flange (120) includes portions that are sloped with respect a plane perpendicular to the axis (140) of the cleat-engaging structure. The receptacle is molded into a shoe outsole. Outsole material adjacent to sloped portions of the flange resists twisting of the receptacle as cleats are inserted into or removed from the receptacle.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a traction cleat receiver mounted on the bottom of footwear, particularly athletic footwear. Background technique [0002] Traditional traction devices for footwear use a large number of individual traction elements, such as cleats, that are attached to the outsole of the shoe. For example a typical golf shoe includes seven cleats which are individually attached to the shoe by screwing the cleats into mating receiving receptacles in the sole of the shoe. In recent years, advances have been made to more easily attach and remove traction elements from a shoe by reducing the number of rotations used to attach each traction element. For example, U.S. Patent No. 5,768,809 describes a quick release Q-LOK TM Towing element connector. Q-LOK by rotating the cleat less than a third of a turn when inserted into the receiver TM The traction element connector can be securely coupled to the outsole. [0003] Cleat receivers are ...
