Benefits of technology

The present patent is about a special assembly for a motor grader called a drawbar assembly. This assembly includes a yoke plate, a backbar, a drawbar tube, and a sleeve. The yoke plate has two surfaces and the backbar is attached to the first surface of the yoke plate. The backbar has a tube facing surface. The drawbar tube has two ends and it is attached to the yoke plate with a clearance between the second end of the drawbar tube and the tube facing surface of the backbar. The sleeve encloses a portion of the drawbar tube and it has two attachment portions, one attached to the backbar and the other attached to the yoke plate. The technical effect of this patent is to provide a more efficient and effective way to connect the backbar and yoke plate of a motor grader with a drawbar tube, which allows for better control and performance of the grader.

Problems solved by technology

Due to the increased weight of the motor grader, various components of the drawbar assembly may undergo an increased amount of stress.
Moreover, as each of the drawbar tubes is relatively thinner than the backbar, an attachment between each of the drawbar tubes and the backbar may primarily experience the increased amount of stress.
In these machines, increased stress may be experienced by the drawbar assembly, leading to a reduced work life of the drawbar assembly.
This may also lead to an increased downtime and operating cost of the motor grader, which in turn may reduce overall productivity of the motor grader.

Embodiment Construction

[0011]Referring to FIG. 1, a side view of an exemplary machine 10 is illustrated. The machine 10 is a motor grader 10. The motor grader 10 is employed to perform earth levelling operation on a work surface (not shown). The motor grader 10 includes a main frame 12, a number of wheels 14, a cab 16, a power unit 18, a blade assembly 20, and a drawbar assembly 22.

[0012]The main frame 12 is supported on the wheels 14, which facilitates machine maneuvering. The main frame 12 supports various components of the motor grader 10. The main frame 12 includes a first frame member 24 and a second frame member 26. The first frame member 24 is positioned proximal to a rear end 28 of the motor grader 10. The first frame member 24 supports the power unit 18 of the motor grader 10. The second frame member 26 is an elongated member rotatably attached to the first frame member 24 of the main frame 12. The second frame member 26 is positioned proximal to a frontal end 30 of the motor grader 10. The secon...

Abstract

A drawbar assembly for a motor grader is provided. The drawbar assembly includes a yoke plate, a backbar, a drawbar tube, and a sleeve. The yoke plate includes a first surface and a second surface. The backbar is attached to the first surface of the yoke plate. The backbar includes a tube facing surface. The drawbar tube includes a first end and a second end. The drawbar tube is attached to the first surface of the yoke plate, defining a clearance between the first end of the drawbar tube and the tube facing surface of the backbar. The sleeve encloses at least a portion of the drawbar tube. The sleeve includes a backbar attachment portion and a yoke attachment portion. The backbar attachment portion is attached to the tube facing surface of the backbar and the yoke attachment portion is attached to the first surface of the yoke plate.

Description

TECHNICAL FIELD[0001]The present disclosure generally relates to a drawbar assembly for a motor grader.BACKGROUND[0002]Machines, such as motor graders, are commonly used in earth levelling applications, such as road maintenance and surface contouring. A motor grader generally employs a drawbar assembly installed on a main frame of the motor grader. The drawbar assembly supports a blade, which performs earth levelling during normal operation of the motor grader. Typically, the drawbar assembly includes a yoke plate, a backbar, and a pair of drawbar tubes. The backbar is attached to the yoke plate and extends vertically from the yoke plate. Each of the drawbar tubes is fixedly attached to the yoke plate. Each of the drawbar tubes includes a first end and a second end. The first end of each of the drawbar tubes is fixedly attached to the main frame. The second end of each of the drawbar tubes is fixedly attached to the backbar.[0003]Conventionally, the motor grader has an increased wei...
