Process for the manufacturing of surface elements with a structured upper surface

A process for the manufacturing of a decorative surface element, which element comprises a base layer and a decorative upper surface. A wetting repellent lacquer is printed in a predetermined pattern on the decorative upper surface. The wetting repellent lacquer covers only parts of the decorative upper surface. A wear layer of a UV or electron beam curing lacquer is then applied on top of the decorative upper surface which UV or electron beam curing lacquer is repelled from the parts of the surface being covered by the wetting repellent lacquer whereby a surface structure is achieved.

Absorbent webs including highly textured surface

The present invention discloses a paper web with a highly textured surface and a method of forming the highly textured web. The process includes printing a viscous material onto the surface of a paper web in a pattern with a low pressure printing process. Specifically, it has been discovered that certain low pressure printing technologies may be used to deliver a viscous material to the surface of a paper web such as a tissue, an air laid web, or a fibrous nonwoven web with good control of material delivery. At some point after the viscous material is applied to the web, the material may be fibrillated into a three-dimensional structure and then cured. In various embodiments, the viscous material may be fibrillated and cured so as to provide a good scrubbing surface to the web, provide an attachment structure on the web, or provide a good contact surface against a second substrate in forming laminate products.

Coated paper including a pseudo-watermark, and a method of manufacture

The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a coated paper having at least one mark resembling a watermark, the method being characterized in that said mark is made after the drying step which follows the last coating operation, by performing steps in which: a) a re-wetting solution is applied to at least one face of the coated paper, in one or more determined zones; and b) pressure and heat are applied in said re-wetted zone(s) of the coated paper so as to evaporate said solution and densify the coated paper in said zone(s) relative to the remainder of the paper. The present invention also provides a coated paper including at least one mark resembling a watermark, characterized in that one or more determined zones of the coated paper present a reduction in thickness relative to the remainder of the coated paper, the density per unit area in said zone(s) of the coated paper being identical to that in the remainder of the paper.

Surface treated paper product

A soft tissue product includes a surface treatment composition disposed on a treated portion that extends to the edges of the product, but which leaves the corners of the product untreated. The shape of the treated portion effectively ensures consumer benefit while reducing the total amount of additive composition on the product by placing the treatment composition in the portion of the product that is most likely to come into contact with the skin of a user.

Absorbent wipe having bonding material logo

An absorbent printed paper web and methods for making the printed web, the web having a visually discernible larger pattern, which can be a logo, on at least one surface formed essentially only of a paper web and a strengthening, colored bonding material. The printed web having the larger pattern can be made using the same bonding material and process used to print the background pattern. A double recrepe process using an improved Gravure roll may be used to print both logo and background. One method includes using a Gravure roll having deep depressions for printing a geometric background pattern, which can be a cross hatch pattern defining unprinting surface areas between the repeating deep depressions. The Gravure roll can also have shallow depressions in the reverse image of a logo to be printed, where the shallow depressions can have contiguous logo areas much larger than the size of the repeating deep depressions or unprinting surface areas in the background pattern. The shallowly printed regions add strength, and due to interaction with the creping roll and blade, also add bulk and softness to the finished web. The printed web can be printed with a Latex bonding material on one or both web surfaces, not requiring further web printing and compression on a surface after creping. The resulting printed web can carry a product or service logo or trademark, while being strengthened and expanded by the bonding material which also carries the logo or trademark.

Non-impact printing method for applying compositions to webs and products produced therefrom

A method is disclosed for application of compositions onto non-woven webs, such as paper webs. The present invention is also directed to products made from the process. In general, the method includes applying a composition to a non-woven web using a non-impact printer, such as an ink jet printer. The composition is applied, in one embodiment, as droplets that remain as discrete shapes on the substrate. In this manner, treated areas and untreated areas are formed on the web. Through this process, the water absorption and control properties of the web can be adjusted as desired while simultaneously treating the web with a composition that improves the physical and / or chemical properties of the web.
