Light emitted in side surface directions from side-emitting red, green, and blue LEDs which are arranged on an LED array substrate is introduced into a light guide from side surfaces of a groove-shaped recessed portion, and propagates in the light guide. Thus, the three colors are mixed. The light further propagates in the light guide while being reflected at both side end surfaces of the light guide by the function of a reflective sheet and the like. Thus, color mixing progresses. Further, the light is reflected upward by diffuse reflective means provided on the lower surface of the light guide, and emitted as backlight light to the outside through a diffuse sheet.

The present invention provides a multicolor LED assembly packaged with improved and controlled color mixing to create a more uniform color mixture. The assembly includes at least one lens overlying an encapsulant which encapsulates a plurality of LED dies. The lens includes a top surface and a bottom surface with the contour of the bottom surface designed to redirect light from each of the LED dies in different directions towards the top surface of the lens. The contoured shaped of the bottom surface of the lens redirects light from each of the plurality of LED dies such that illuminance and luminous intensity distributions of the plurality of LED dies substantially overlap, wherein the deviation from complete overlap is less than a predetermined amount which is substantially imperceptible to the average human eye.

Various embodiments described herein comprise mixers comprising a light pipe having input and output ends and a central region therebetween. An optical path extends in a longitudinal direction from the input end through the central region to the output end. The central region of the light pipe comprises one or more rippled reflective sidewalls having a plurality of elongate ridges and valleys and sloping surfaces therebetween. Light from the input end propagating along the optical path reflects from the sloping surfaces and is redirected at a different azimuthal direction toward the output end thereby mixing the light at the output end. Illuminance and/or color mixing can therefore be provided.

Lamps, luminaries or solid state lighting components are disclosed having multiple discrete light sources whose light combines to provide the desired emission characteristics. The discrete light sources are arranged in an array pursuant to certain guidelines to promote mixing of light from light sources emitting different colors of light. A white light emitting apparatus includes a light source section in which a first white LED that emits white light whose chromaticity deviates to a blue side from a predetermined white region of a CIE chromaticity diagram and a second white LED that emits white light whose chromaticity deviates to a yellow side from the predetermined white region are adjacently disposed so as to emit light with optical axes in substantially the same direction, and a current regulator that independently drives the blue LED chip in the first and second white LEDs, respectively. The present invention is a method for obtaining a better color rendering with a photoluminescence plate, and the better color rendering is obtained by using UV radiating on the photoluminescence plate stacked with a red photoluminescence plate, a green photoluminescence plate and a blue photoluminescence plate. Therefore, the color rendering is above 90% and close to the solar light. The photoluminescence plate can be made from directly coated with photoluminescence layers of three colors or with fully mixed fluorescent materials of three colors. Consequently, a white light relied on the present invention is more uniform than the conventional techniques with a color mixing performance based on tricolor LEDs.

Intelligent illumination device are disclosed that use components in an LED light to perform one or more of a wide variety of desirable lighting functions for very low cost. The LEDs that produce light can be periodically turned off momentarily, for example, for a duration that the human eye cannot perceive, in order for the light to receive commands optically. The optically transmitted commands can be sent to the light, for example, using a remove control device. The illumination device can use the LEDs that are currently off to receive the data and then configure the light accordingly, or to measure light. Such light can be ambient light for a photosensor function, or light from other LEDs in the illumination device to adjust the color mix.

In accordance with the invention, a multicolor LED assembly with improved color mixing comprises an assembly of closely-packed LED dice of different colors packaged for high temperature operation and arranged to minimize same-color adjacency to promote color mixing. The present invention is directed to a lighting apparatus. In one embodiment the lighting apparatus includes a plurality of light emitting diode (LED) chips. A first optic is coupled to the plurality of LED chips. A diffuser is coupled to the first optic. In addition, a second optic is coupled to the diffuser.

An apparatus and method of providing a panoramic image, the method including: preparing images of a plurality of levels, which are made by scaling each of two source images at several rates; computing a Sum of Square Difference (SSD) between two corresponding images in each of the plurality of levels of the two source images to form an image stitched together; and when stitching the two images, the overlapping area is divided into a plurality of parts and each part is assigned a weight which is linearly applied respectively to the divided part of each source image for blending color. The apparatus includes stitching units to stitch source images together at the plurality of levels and blending units to color blend the source images in the overlapped area.

A total-internal-reflection (TIR) lens for color mixing includes a body member having an outer surface and an interior open channel extending longitudinally through the body member.
