Abstract

The HDD of an HDD navigation system can be shared with a second system without any need to modify the navigation system. An HDD control apparatus (1) is connected to a navigation system (2), an HDD (3) and a second system (4). Data read from the HDD is accumulated into a buffer RAM (11). When the data is to be transferred to the second system, it is expanded by an expander (13) and outputted to the second system. When there occurs a collision between an HDD access command from the navigation system and that from the second system, a time division processing is used to arbitrate between those commands. Giving a higher priority to the processing of the second system can prevent data, such as audio data, from being interrupted.
