Abstract

An engine start device having a first start mode in which an engine is started by engine start operation to immediately start the engine and also having a second start mode in which force required for shock-absorbing / force-storage means is stored in advance and the engine is started in the first attempt at desired time and place. In the first start mode, force stored in the shock-absorbing / force-storage means (9, 10) by rotation of a rotation / drive section (D) is directly transmitted to a rotation / driven section (M) and the engine is immediately started. When the first start mode is switched to the second start mode, the rotation of the rotation / drive section (D) is stored entirely in the shock absorbing / force storage means (9, 10), the force stored in the shock absorbing / force storage means (9, 10) is released at desired time and place, thereby rotating the rotation / driven section (M) to start the engine through one-touch operation. The device has first and second engagement members (14, 15) and single switchover operation means (16).
