Emissions control system for increasing selective catalytic reduction efficiency

An emissions control system is used with a compression ignition engine capable of producing an exhaust gas stream to be treated by a reduction agent which is mixed with the exhaust gas stream to convert the exhaust gas stream prior to being directed into an SCR catalyst capable of reducing NOx in the exhaust gas stream. An exhaust gas recirculation valve is associated with the compression ignition engine for directing the exhaust gas stream back into the compression ignition engine. An electronic control unit and sensors determine whether the temperature of the exhaust gas stream is at a predetermined temperature, and if so control operation of the valve to allow a portion of the exhaust gas stream to be directed into the SCR catalyst. A bypass valve may also be provided to prevent the exhaust gas stream from entering into the SCR catalyst.

Starting apparatus for internal combustion engine and automobile

An idling stop control of the invention attains an auto start and an auto stop of an engine. At a time point t1, pre-set stop conditions are met to cut off a fuel supply to the engine. Preset starting conditions may be met at a time point t2 when the engine still continues rotating in a normal direction by the inertial force. In this state, the idling stop control starts cranking the engine. The preset starting conditions may be met at a time point t4 when a piston does not complete a compression cycle immediately before a stop of the engine but is pressed back by the compressed air to rotate the engine in a reverse direction. In this state, the idling stop control waits until cancellation of the reverse rotation of the engine and then starts cranking the engine. The arrangement of the invention desirably ensures a quick start of the engine, while effectively preventing an excess stress from acting on a gear mechanism, which connects a starter motor to the engine.

Apparatus for winding an elongate strap onto a winch

The present invention relates to an apparatus for winding an elongate strap onto a winch. The winch has a hub member to which may be coupled the strap winding apparatus and a reel element fixed to the hub member about which may be wound the elongate strap. The strap winding apparatus has a protective housing and a winding assembly at least partially retained within the housing. The winding assembly includes a coupling ring sized to fit over the hub member for selective mating therewith and a spool assembly. The spool assembly has a spool member mounted in surrounding relation with the coupling ring, a cord which may be wound about the spool member and which may be pulled to urge rotation of the spool member in a first direction, and a torsion spring member connected to both the housing and the spool member. The spring member is configured to store spring energy when the cord is pulled and the spool member rotates in the first direction, and to release spring energy to the spool member when the cord is released thereby urging the spool member to rotate in a second direction opposite to the first direction and causing the cord to be wound about the spool member. The coupling ring has an engagement member pivotally mounted thereto. The engagement member is engageable with both the hub member and the spool member so as to allow torque from the spool member to be transmitted to the hub member via the coupling ring such that when the cord is pulled and the spool member rotates in the first direction the hub member will also rotate thereby causing the elongate strap to be wound about the reel member. The apparatus may be also be used to wind other elongate flexible elements such as webbing, a rope, a cable or a cord.

The valve disk 20 has an outer peripheral portion 12 as a contact surface with the valve seat, and a weight 30 is welded to a bead portion 23 with an inner portion thereof projecting to the back face. A spring is wound around the hinge axis, with one end 18 engaging a back face of the valve wall 21 for the valve disk, the other end engaging a support bracket. The resonance frequency is decreased by the weight, thereby preventing the beat sound from arising in a normal range of the engine speed. The weight is welded to the bead portion, thereby not causing the outer peripheral portion 23 as the contact surface to be distorted.

Starting apparatus

Engine starting apparatus comprising a one way clutch. A first oil seal is located on the outer side of a second oil seal in the radial direction of a ring gear. Upon starting of an engine, the time that the first oil seal is slid on the ring gear is short, and after the start of the engine, the first oil seal is not slid on the ring gear. The second oil seal is located on the inner side of the first oil seal in the radial direction of the ring gear. Therefore, the second oil seal hardly deteriorates even if slid on a flywheel at high speed after the start of the engine. By locating the first and second oil seals at different positions in the radial direction of the ring gear, it is possible to improve the startability and the lifetime of a starting apparatus. At least one oil seal has a taper shape in order to generate a thrust force which forces the ring gear away from the flywheel.

Internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine capable of optimizing the amount of oil in the crank chamber with a simplified structure of lubrication system, in which a U-shaped oil reservoir is formed surrounding and adjacent to a crank chamber. At least one small hole is formed on a partition wall which separates the oil reservoir and the crank chamber from each other so that the crank chamber may always communicate with the oil reservoir through the small hole. Due to a flow resistance in the small hole, a pressure Po in the oil reservoir changes following a change of pressure Pc in the crank chamber with some delay, and where the pressure difference between the oil reservoir and the crank chamber caused by a delay in the change of the pressure Po in the oil reservoir, results in the introduction of the oil in the oil reservoir into the crank chamber. It further allows excessive oil in the crank chamber to be circulated back into the oil reservoir.
